Got your attention? I thought so. This Thursday, you can have all three, at the Lesbian Leadership Council’s (LLC) wine and chocolate tasting at Life’s A Cabernet in Bucktown (1937 West North Avenue).

This luscious evening of wine and ‘Single Origin Chocolate’ tasting will offer you the opportunity to sample a variety of wines and rare chocolates from around the world. Sommelier, Janel Syron, will teach you about proper tasting techniques and how to pair the flavor profiles of wine with chocolate to create a perfect match. These rare chocolates are sold only at Life’s A Cabernet, and will be available for purchase after the event. Your $45 ticket will include 5 wine tastings, 4 chocolate tastings, and the chance to mingle with other ladies who share your taste for fine wines and desserts, all while benefitting LBTQ organizations in the community!

The LLC is the only grant-making entity in the city of Chicago that provides funds exclusively available to the lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning communities. With a special focus on women and girls’ access to healthcare and information, freedom from violence, and economic security, the LLC is inclusive of individuals who identify as a member of our community and also provides leadership development, educational programming, and networking opportunities. As a part of the Chicago Foundation for Women, the Lesbian Leadership Council was the first of five women’s councils to create its own vehicle to support communities of interest through The Lavender Fund, (from which 100% of proceeds go directly to LBTQ organizations and programs in Chicago). The council’s primary goal is to support the LBTQ community by raising money to support the fund – through membership dues, events and fundraising events like this one. Since 2004, the Lavender Fund has awarded 32 grants totaling $90,500 for LBTQ projects in the Chicago area. In 2012 alone, the Lavender Fund awarded five grants totaling $12,000. Recent recipients include Affinity Community Services, Chicago Women’s Health Center, Illinois Safe School Alliance, UCAN’s LGBTQ Host Home Program, and Women & Children First Bookstore.

If you’re interested in learning more about the LLC and how you can get involved with all of the good they are constantly doing, check out their website.
