Just about two years ago, a group of women crammed around a table in the basement of Caesar’s for a well-deserved weeknight margarita. Many of us had not met in real life yet- brought together by a passion for writing and excitement behind a new Chicago based internet community for lesbians- we were celebrating a mention by the RedEye and the beginning of something great. The lovechild of Vivian Gonzalez and Lisa Martinez, The L Stop was created as a one stop shop for everything local lesbians could dream of. With a crew of energetic and talkative women behind them, the site went live on May 1, 2011. The next two years brought things none of us had imagined; from festivals to camping trips, protests to memorials our team not only grew into a family but blossomed into a community that spans age, cultures and interests.
As we approached our next big milestone, we could think of nowhere that would better encompass our values than the Center on Halsted. We are extremely excited to be partnering with the Center and the Women’s Action Committee to celebrate our two year anniversary like we kicked it off- with margaritas, food and of course our family. Join us this Sunday May 5th from 5-10 pm as we begin another chapter complete with casino-style table games and a performance by the Fly Honeys to kick the summer off the right way!
Without our readers we would just be another forum full of ideas- thanks to YOU we have gotten stronger every week, both in content and numbers. Check out the videos below to brush up on your gaming, grab a friend and join us THIS SUNDAY!
