The world didn’t end, but now there’s another dilemma that happens every year without fail – it’s time to figure out what the heck you’re going to do for New Year’s Eve. Don’t trouble yourself with weighing options, spending a ton of money, or haggling back and forth with you friends. Come where all the women will be, dressed to impress in your best black & white attire at D.S. Tequila!

In addition to a one-hour open bar (8-9 pm), two drink tickets, hors d’oeuvres, drinks specials all night long, DJ Worra, a live performance by GIRL BAND, and a champagne toast, we will be giving away tickets for Dinah Shore in Palm Springs!

And if that’s not enough for you, Laura Petracca of Hunter Valentine and The Real L World will be there, inevitably being all cute and stuff. Which means you should be there, too! We got the chance to hear Laura’s sexy morning voice over the phone, when we asked her about her band, the show, and the best drink to buy her to ring in the New Year!

Live performances by GirlBand!

Angelique: I’ve read about some of the male music influences in your life, such as Keith Moon [The Who], your grandfather and your uncle. Are there any female drummers that inspire you?

Laura: Obviously Sheila E., who’s a crazy great percussionist and also a lead singer – that would be in terms of drummers. But I’d also have to say Brody Dalle from The Distillers, she’s pretty hardcore and she doesn’t really give a shit, you know? I like that kind of mentality. She can really rock out. You hear mixed things about her, but you’re always going to hear that if a woman’s got drive and passion of course she’s probably also considered a bitch.

A: Who is on your playlist?

L: Right now? I’m obsessed right now with Muse’s new album; it’s called The 2nd Law. It’s really, really good! I’m just trying to get into that – they’ve done a lot of different things on this album. Also Rihanna’s new album is really awesome.

A: I always give myself a pat on the back for liking Muse starting with Showbiz in 1999, before Twihards jumped on the bandwagon.

L: Ha! Yeah, that’s awesome.

A: Since you’re a foodie, attended culinary school, and have been known to talk about how much you love trying new food while on tour, what is the best thing you’ve ever tasted?

L: Oh my God, that’s so hard to say. I talk about how in Utah in August, two years ago, I had one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had in my entire life, just on the roadside. In Texas, South Carolina and Missouri, I’ve had the best BBQ. It’s random places, really. In Japan, I had ramen. In Chicago, I’ve had deep-dish pizza. I’ve done quite a bit in terms of food. It always should taste better when you’re in the place that the food is known for. Like, in Chicago you have Gene and Jude’s, it was the best hot dog I’ve ever had. You probably could have that same hot dog in New York City, but it’s sort of knowing that it’s the best hot dog in town.

A: Yeah, when I went to New York, I just had to have Gray’s Papaya because I saw that Matthew Perry movie, Fools Rush In. I’m so lame, but it was amazing. I’m sure it was just a hot dog, but still…

L: No, no! Exactly! It’s atmosphere. I think that the Japanese food I had in Japan was amazing, but you know, you don’t know if it’s just because you’re in Tokyo on tour.

A: So, what’s the wildest thing that has ever happened on tour?

L: Well, our van broke down twice this last tour, once in the middle of the mountains in Oregon, so we got stuck in this small town for two days. It was really interesting. Vero [Sanchez] and I went to this bar to go have some dinner and they had slot machines. It’s kind of a thing Vero has, she loves slots. So we went in and had the special or whatever, and spent the night dealing with this 85 year-old man who was, no joke, trying his hardest to pick me up. It felt like I was in another world in Oregon, and I think I was. Also, another strange thing was somebody gave me their stiletto shoe at a show. I mean, she took off her shoe and gave it to me.

A: Hmmm.

L: Yeah, just random things thrown at you on stage. A rubber glove once…

A: Now that’s interesting.

L: Underwear gets thrown, of course. But the shoe was interesting…don’t you think you need that?

A: You’re originally from Toronto, how have you adjusted in terms of your move form Canada to NYC?

L: It’s been like three and a half years now. Anyone that moves to New York City has to go through the whole, “I love it here,” “I hate it here,” “I love it here!” “I wanna die!” So, I’ve gone through the whole roller coaster of emotions for the last few years, but I really like it here now. And I also love living here in the United States. I’m a proud Canadian, all Canadians think their country is the best, we do, but there’s so much more to offer here. There are a lot more cities, more people, more opportunity. I’m really starting to fall in love with the United States. I think I want to stay here the rest of my life.

A: Wow! You heard it here first!

A: How has your life changed since being on The Real L Word?

L: I guess I get recognized a lot more, that’s sort of the biggest change. I used to get recognized for being in Hunter Valentine, but not nearly as much as I do now. Now, if I go to a lesbian party, I’m almost 100% sure that at least 20% of the people are going to be like, [whisper, whisper, whisper]. That definitely happens to me now. This last tour that we did, we definitely doubled in size in terms of fan base and turnout. People were there not only because they saw us on the show, but also because they were exposed to our music on the show. That has been a huge thing for us.

A: Do you feel like you get hit on more or less now?

L: I mean, you know, I’m pretty much a stud. I think…

A: Ha!

L: It’s kind of funny, I never really looked at it that way. I guess I feel like I’ve always had a pretty good chance. Now, instead of the whole respectful pick up lines I used to get, it’s more like, “I’ve seen your tits. Let’s fuck.” Or they just sort of jump on me. I don’t mind it, it’s kind of fun.

A: I know, I’m like, is that good or bad? Wait a minute…

L: Back in Toronto, when we first started to get recognized and we’d first started out as a band, it started happening to me then. I got into a long-term relationship, so it wasn’t really happening. But then, once I became single again and The Real L Word thing happened…well, I have no complaints whatsoever!

A: I know it’s been mentioned that Kiyomi has been portrayed as a dictator on the show, but do you feel like there were any misconceptions that viewers might have about you?

L: No. They didn’t really follow my direct storyline. I mean, I’m in it for the music and the band, that whole thing. But, no, exactly what you saw is exactly what I am. I’m that crazy person that when I get drunk, I will most likely do something outrageous, whether it’s getting naked or whatever. It’s always positive and it’s always funny, and it’s sort of an uncontrollable thing about me. I love attention, and so sometimes I’m going do something that’s kind of crazy.

A: Who is your celebrity crush?

L: This is sort of funny, because there are a lot of very attractive celebrities out there, but I’m going to go with the one that I’ve had a crush on for the longest, and it’s only because I had a sex dream about her. I had no idea that I was ever attracted to this celebrity until then. It’s Lindsay Lohan.

A: Whaaaaat?!?

L: I know, I know! I don’t really like the way she’s changing, but I definitely have a little celebrity crush on her. But I guess there are kind of a lot of others, too. I got to meet Carmen Electra and she’s pretty sexy, that’s for sure.

A: You’ve got to give me one more to make up for Lohan.

L: You know who else? Juliette Lewis. She’s kind of got that…

A: Edgy, sexy…

L: Hot confidence, yeah. She’s the lead singer of a punk rock band, so I’d give you her. I mean, there are so many! I’m totally missing that, 100% have a biggest crush on this person thing, but I had to go with who I thought of first.

A: Are you as excited about our New Year’s Eve party as we are? Hint: the answer is “yes”!

L: Absolutely! I can’t wait! I have some friends coming in from Canada and some fans have been writing me. I know there are some people driving up from St. Louis, some people from Indiana. People have been reaching out to me to say that they’re coming because they think it might just be a crazy party! And I’m like, it absolutely will be!

A: So, what’s your drink of choice, just in case readers want to buy their favorite drummer a drink at DS Tequila?

L: Okay, there are two. I’ll go by how I think I will be feeling. It’s New Year’s Eve, so I don’t think I’ll want to be doing shots. I want to be crazy, but I don’t want to be that girl, you know what I mean. So, vodka pineapple, and don’t laugh at me. Or whiskey: whiskey and water, or whiskey and soda.

A: Be prepared! Women might be lined up with drinks in hand.

L: They’ll be like, “We didn’t get you shots, but we got you twelve vodka pineapples!”

A: Right? Fingers crossed!
