4 Suyos Peruvian Cuisine

I drove past this place and thought, two Peruvian restaurants right next door to each other? Not sure if that was a good sign or a bad sign – but I knew I had to check it out.

I have to say I was originally sold by 4 Suyos because of the BYOB. I picked up a bottle of Di Costello’s White Sangria and hightailed it with my girlfriend into 4 Suyos.

When you first walk in and look around it’s a little confusing. I think I just expected more of a Latin flair to the place. But we all know what they say about first impressions and judging a book by its cover and all of that….. so my girl and I just took our seats without any hesitation.

We were greeted by a server who was really upbeat and enjoyable. She knew the menu well and we were especially excited because she was able to create half orders off the entrees so we could have a little more to taste. We went with the Jalea Mixta. This is a deep fried mixture of octopus, scallops, squid, mussels, shrimp, and tilapia served with salsa criolla and yucca. What can I say my friends???? It stole the show. We were kicking ourselves for not ordering it as an entrée – it was that good!!! The girlfriend and I opted for the special for our main course – which was on the back of the menu – Filet with yucca. It was just perfect – it was delicious and sliced like butter.

I definitely recommend this place for the quality of food I experienced. Give it a try if you are in the neighborhood – make it a date night soon! Don’t forget to BYOB!

Nina is now running Doll House with a team of twelve people, and swears it’s been the best four years of her life. After 18 years of arroz con gandules, Nina decided to take on the city to see what the neighborhoods have to offer. Some people eat to live, and although she hates to admit it, she lives to eat. Spoiling herself with one, two…OK maybe four or five nights out a week. When Nina is not indulging in Chicago eats, you can find her with a colorbrush in her hand in a high end salon making Chicago more beautiful every day.
