Valentines Day Restaurant Recommendations

Surprise your date on Valentines Day and step out of the box.

Valentine’s Day isn’t about gifts, it’s about quality time; appreciating the woman you love.  One thing I adore about my girlfriend is her ability to wow me. Not just on Valentine’s day but even on regular run of the mill days. She always goes the extra mile to make me feel special. So here’s a few places and tips on where you can go Valentine’s Day weekend or even on the big VDay. Hopefully you can wow the lovely lady in your life.

1. Wee Gee’s Lounge

3659 W Armitage Ave
Chicago, IL 60647
Ambiance is everything – and at Wee gee’s you will encounter lights down low — 20’s Jazz — and a bartender in a tie and jacket. The bar has had little to no changes over the years and is made from gorgeous glass and wood.  You will find all of this hidden at a Speak Easy in Logan Square.

At first site you may want to turn around. The outside is great camouflage for the amazing bar on the inside. Wee gee’s has classic drinks for the classy lady.  Some of the drinks you will find are the Pink Squirrel, Bocce Ball and the Presbyterian.  They also happen to have a very nice beer selection. There’s a photo booth and shuffle board as well! If you’re in the mood for a quiet lounge and conversation I will say Wee gee’s will WOW your date! She won’t know how you found it – and you never have to tell her! Average Drink ranges from $8-$10.  Beers $4-$8

2. Ambrosia Café

1963 N Sheffield Ave
Chicago, IL 60614

Ambrosia is a BYOB Hookah Lounge.  It is a great place to get to know someone and keep your hands busy. The music is kept at a level you can talk over.  I actually recommend this place for after dinner or if you get out late and you just plan to skip dinner all together. The staff are very attentive and change your coal regularly. $18 per hookah for the standard flavors and $20 per hookah for other flavors.

3. Ñ

2977 N Elston Ave
Chicago, IL 60618

This Argentinean lounge has perfected the Mojito! TRUST ME!!!  You can get them in all flavors and colors of the rainbow.  My favorites are Coconut and Blackberry. The bartenders are amazing and quick. Dim lights and candles…close seating and great music. They also have a full dinner menu. The empanadas are a must have….and a date for two could cost you less than $40…..

4. The Bedford

1612 W Division St
Chicago, IL 60622
Plenty of sexy nooks and seating. The Bedford is a bank vault turned lounge –  how cool is that?? The drinks are good and the environment is not pretentious. I suggest to stick to the house special cocktails and appetizers. The ambiance will set the mood, and you have to close the deal. A date for two will take you to about $60-$80 comfortably.

Nina is now running Doll House with a team of twelve people, and swears it’s been the best four years of her life. After 18 years of arroz con gandules, Nina decided to take on the city to see what the neighborhoods have to offer. Some people eat to live, and although she hates to admit it, she lives to eat. Spoiling herself with one, two…OK maybe four or five nights out a week.
