TGIFriday Giveaway: Two Tickets to The Indigo Girls

The one and only absolutely MUST for any chick who truly wants her lesbo card to be 100% unrevokable is to get her ass to at least one Indigo Concert in her lifetime.

Amy Ray and Emily Saliers met in elementary school in the early 70’s and started performing around the Atlanta area in the late 70’s/early 80’s. Their unique harmonies and folk driven musical sound took hold with the release of Strange Fire in 1989. Off of that album came one of the most relevant songs the Indigo Girls have in their catalogue. The lyrics speak to the disillusionment of the times for those of us who were “different” and through the mesmerizing music that wove its way through the words – we found an anthem of sorts. Sounds way dramatic –but it was just true.

“Closer To Fine”

I’m trying to tell you something about my life
Maybe give me insight between black and white
The best thing you’ve ever done for me
Is to help me take my life less seriously, it’s only life after all
Well darkness has a hunger that’s insatiable
And lightness has a call that’s hard to hear
I wrap my fear around me like a blanket
I sailed my ship of safety till I sank it, I’m crawling on your shore.

I went to the doctor, I went to the mountains
I looked to the children, I drank from the fountain
There’s more than one answer to these questions
pointing me in crooked line
The less I seek my source for some definitive
The closer I am to fine.

The girls have released more than 14 albums over the years and they just keep getting better and better with age. The Indigo Girls are playing in Chicago next Tuesday and Wednesday (the 8th and 9th) at the Vic Theatre – make sure you make an appearance – and get your Lesbo card validated.
