Tamales LOL Report

The L Stop's Official Comedy Gal

Welcome to our L Stop comedy section! I am delighted to be working with The L Stop to bring you the most up-to-date information about comedy in Chicago. You can find out what’s coming up, what happened at the most recent shows, and where to go for a good laugh. I update our comprehensive calendar with Chicago comedy events, post my interviews with the funniest people out there, and highlight comics I think you should know. Also, as I travel and tour, I will keep you abreast (eh HEM) of my crazy adventures! See you out and about, sweet lezzies!

    • Tamale’s 12: Spotlight on Gwen LaRoka
Tweet TweetTamale’s 12 for 12 is a collection of 12 questions posed to one of Tamale’s favorite comics each month. I recently had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Gwen at the Mayne Stage as part of HER HRC. She kept the crowd rolling with laughter throughout her set, and closed with this physical bit about what it might look like if women adjusted themselves as freely as men do. It was amazing and you should try to catch one of [...]
    • Tamale’s 12: Spotlight on Adam Guerino
Tweet TweetTamale’s 12 for 12 is a collection of 12 questions posed to one of Tamales favorite comics each month. You might know Adam Guerino from OutLoud Chicago’s Queer Comedy at Zanies, or any one of the wildly successful comedy shows he’s produced in our city. A staple in both the gay and comedy scenes, Adam is multifaceted and incredibly talented. I have been lucky enough to share the stage with him numerous times, and now let’s get to know him a [...]
    • Tamale’s 12: Spotlight on Ever Mainard
Tweet TweetTamale’s 12 for 12 is a collection of 12 questions posed to one of Tamales favorite comics each month. I originally met Ever when I was working at Second City. She was the cutest barista at Starbucks by far. We chatted about her wanting to do stand up comedy and now she’s a rising star gaining momentum and catching the eyes of those who know their stuff! It’s my absolute pleasure to introduce to you, Ever Mainard. 1. When did you first [...]
    • Stye = 1, Tamale = 2
Tweet TweetI have a stye.  A big un.  For those of you who don’t know what a stye is, it’s essentially a zit (gross) inside your eyelid (grosser).  It makes your eye puff up and feels like you have a conjoined twin tightly curled up behind your lashes.  Also, it hurts.  That little twin is just writhing around in your lid and there’s nothing you can do about it.  Nothing.  Crying only angers the twin.  Don’t cry.  Do.  Not. I started feeling [...]
    • Tamale at Viva Las Vegas 14!
Tweet TweetLast weekend I headed west for the annual rockabilly weekender, Viva Las Vegas.  Each year, rockabilly folks come from all over the world to celebrate the sights and sounds of this modern twist on classic Americana.  It was nearly as breathtaking as the inescapable cigarette smoke in the host casino! I felt as though I had been transported back in time, that my parents picture books had come to life.  The greased haired fellas with careless cigarettes [...]

  1. Of all the senses, the sense of humor is the most important. Every chuckle, chortle, giggle and guffaw we can get brings joy to each of us and a sense of togetherness to all of us.

So, bring it on, T. Do do that voodoo that you do so well.

  2. Tamale, I’m sorry I missed your comedy routine at Women and Children First. A friend came over late in the afternoon. You’re hilarious, and I can’t wait to see you in a future performance.

  3. Tamale, I met you about five or six years ago when you visited your friend Maria, or Marie, on Greenview. Suddenly, on my backporch, there was this woman who defined funny. I tried to get info on you to check out your comedy. I was about to write a mystery novel and I wanted a character, a lesbian comedian, to be a lot like you. Well, last year I did a reading of that novel at Women and Children First. Been waiting two years for ‘the L stop’ to jump off and there you are. Still waiting to catch a show. But glad to see you weren’t a figment of my imagination on the backporch of my life.
