Platonic Date Partner in Crime

The best thing ever – for real – out of this world no holds barred Cracker Jack prize of a life time is finding that special someone who is truly without exception and beyond a shadow of a doubt a life saving platonic date friend – no kidding.

I am the luckiest person alive. I know I am – most days. We can’t all be lucky or blessed or fortunate enough to have landed in the arms of our one and only true love of our life. I simply don’t have that person in my life right now who wants to get into my business and be my girl. I don’t have the beautiful spirit at my beck and call wanting to want me until the end of all things. Oh well. This too shall pass – and if not – I have the very next best thing. I have my favorite girl who reminds me to laugh and live and run around in circles and stay out till all hours of the night – knowing full well and good we will never end up tangled up in some messy sex love fooling around when we know we should never go there kind of thing.

Fate brought us together and we like it that way. She is just what the doctor ordered. We look out for each other and go places together but don’t necessarily leave those places together. We have dinner every once in a while and laugh and talk and help each other through whatever ales us. She tells me things from her much younger point of view and I tell her things from mine. She has adoration for motorcycles and looks damn good on the back of mine so we work our way through summer traffic spending time talking and laughing and enjoying this crazy little thing called life. I can change my mind about meeting out and never use one lame excuse – she gets me – she wants to understand me – and our intentions are one and the same. We love good wine and better martinis, silent movies and summer rides. We do good work in the community and debate social and political nonsense. Her vocabulary is bigger than “like…lol…omg…wtf…” and we each cause the other to ponder certain circumstances just a little bit more.

We are a gift to each other I do believe. It is wonderful to sit across the table from her smiling face listening to her stories knowing full well and good she is just as eager to listen to mine. I am old enough to be her mother (God those words just make me so fucking crazy) – and she is young enough to be my daughter (yes – those words make me cringe as well). But realistically and in the end – we are both old enough and fortunate enough to be good friends who are good for each other and want nothing but the best for each other. We can dance too close and drink out of the same straw and never once think about what the world might think. We are platonic date friends damn it – the best invention ever.

  1. who says soul mates have to be lovers? who says you only have ONE? you bring such joy into this world and to those lucky enough to call you “my friend” you bring so, so much more. Thank you for all that you do, all that you are, and all that you write. Best invention ever, indeed!
